Chhattisgarh has
often been dubbed rice bowl of Central India, with the main crop
being Paddy. Apart from paddy, cereals like maize, kodo-kutki
and other small millets, pulses like tur and kulthi and oilseeds
like Groundnut, Soybean, Niger and Sunflower are also grown. Yet
productivity is not very high. This brought a new thrust on the
sector of Horticulture, as the region is also suitable for
growing Mango, Banana, Guava and other fruits and a variety of
vegetables.
